Oak, sometimes considered the gold standard, has long been a popular choice of firewood and is understandably the ‘go to’ wood choice when keeping an open fire or stove lit for many hours. The oak tree is a slow-growing, dense, hardwood species which makes it a slow, long-burning firewood; perfect when you’re leaving the fire burning for longer periods.
Oak, in particular, takes a long time to dry (season naturally) and due to high demand is often sold before it’s ready to burn resulting in poor performance and harmful pollution - something we all want to avoid. Yorlogs Oak firewood is specially kiln-dried to remove the natural moisture in the wood (and there’s a lot of it) which means you’ll get a perfect flame, all the heat from the log, minimal waste and crucially, low emissions.
Worth noting that some users will find Oak harder to light and slower to reach high heat. Heat output can also be lower depending on stove and management and so in that regard Oak isn’t automatically the best choice or value for every user. That said, if you are looking for the longest burn time to keep the fire lit with least input then you can’t go wrong with Yorlogs Kiln Dried Oak. Also, consider mixing with another less dense hardwood such as Alder or Birch for the best of everything.
Summary: King of the long burn but slower to max heat output.

Stacked Volume vs Loose Volume:
Logs are often sold loose in bags or in loads off the back of a tipper vehicle and you pay for the rough volume delivered. Our crates of stacked logs minimise the 'free' space between logs by a huge factor which means that our crates are even better value than you might think at first glance. The equivalent loose volume of logs is listed alongside the stacked volume for comparison purposes. We use the industry-standard equation as well as real-life experience to calculate the equivalent loose volume of logs.
