Alder is a great firewood, make no mistake. Sometimes wrongly dismissed as lower quality, it’s actually a firm favourite of those in the know, especially our European cousins. The key, as with all firewood, is that it is properly dried.
The benefit of Alder is its speed to light and to reach high heat, making it perfect for quickly getting your stove up to temperature and your home cosy. Although a hardwood, it is less dense than others, such as oak for example. This means it does burn more quickly but it’s so easy to use and manage your stove with Alder it could be the perfect choice if you’re generally using your stove for only a few hours at a time. Also great as a ‘combination wood’ with a longer burning wood if you do use your stove for many hours.
Yorlogs Alder firewood for stoves and open fires is kiln dried to less than 20% moisture meaning it is absolutely ready to burn, will burn bright with a lively flame and produces maximum heat with minimum waste and emissions.
It's also well worth noting that Alder is a faster growing hardwood and as such offers environmental benefits versus popular slow growers such as Oak which take many more years to reach maturity.
Alder is also hard to beat for cooking; perfect for grilling and smoking due to the flavour from the smoke. It also makes premium charcoal.
Summary: Easy to use, fast heat and with added eco benefits.

Stacked Volume vs Loose Volume:
Logs are often sold loose in bags or in loads off the back of a tipper vehicle and you pay for the rough volume delivered. Our crates of stacked logs minimise the 'free' space between logs by a huge factor which means that our crates are even better value than you might think at first glance. The equivalent loose volume of logs is listed alongside the stacked volume for comparison purposes. We use the industry standard equation as well as real life experience to calculate the equivalent loose volume of logs.
